Forced disappearance in Oaxaca, a problem for all of us

We demand the application of the law against the detainees, in the context of the hearing, which is being held in Oaxaca, regarding the case of forced disappearance of the activist Claudia Uruchurtu Cruz, which occurred in March 2021.

Furthermore, the Committee for the Integral Defense of Human Rights Gobixha A. C. (Codigodh) demands that the Judicial Power of the State of Oaxaca resolves the sentence for this case, adhering to the highest standards of forced disappearance.

Taking into account that the concealment of data and information by actors who fulfill a public function only leads to impunity.

Access to justice for the victims of forced disappearance in Mexico and in Oaxaca is a pending issue for the States, in order to guarantee non-repetition, eradicating this crime in the country and repairing damages experienced by the victims.

The number of disappearances in the country has increased, which obliges the State to investigate and punish those responsible. Today, Oaxaca has the opportunity to provide legal certainty so that the victims have access to justice.

The case of Claudia and the human rights defenders, who have been silenced in their search for the recognition of their rights, should not be a constant nor a normalized crime.

Forced disappearance is a problem for all of us, and we cannot allow it to become a mechanism to silence the voices of those who demand their human rights in Oaxaca.
