Women from the Istmo reflect on their human rights during a cinema and debate night

As part of the commemoration of the International Women’s Day, women from the communities of Salina Cruz and Unión Hidalgo in the Istmo of Tehuantepec participated in the “cinedebate” activities organized by the Gobixha A.C. Committee for the Integral Defense of Human Rights (Codigodh).
Sarah Gavron’s film “The Suffragettes” tells the story of the first participants in the British women’s suffrage movement of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, also known as the first wave of feminism of this region.

Women discussed the film and shared their experiences and concerns about their participation in the spaces of their community.

The women’s groups that have also been accompanied by Codigodh in processes of land and territory defense in the Istmo of Tehuantepec, reflected their day-to-day actions with the stories presented in the feature film.

In the debate the women shared their points of view, identifying violence in their homes, forms of discrimination, and inequalities in family spaces and in general assemblies.
