Commemoration of 8M in Salina Cruz

This past March 7, in commemoration of International Women’s Day, the Gunná gula sá sewing workshop in Salina Cruz reopened its doors to us, where we gathered with 30 women of different ages.

In this space of mutual listening, we learned, reflected, and shared knowledge about the struggle of women throughout history and the different forms of feminism that have emerged at different times and in different places.

On this occasion, the meeting, called “Feminisms,” also gave a guideline to share our own stories and experiences of violence that we have faced as women, to question what problems pierce our different contexts, and the importance of positioning yourself in a scenario where women are disappeared and murdered day after day.

The next day, March 8, convened by the collective “The Daughters of the Sea,” women, girls, and young people arrived at the Morelos field to unite as a single voice and demand respect for our lives and rights as women. With posters that contained phrases like “Today I march with my daughter so we don’t have to march tomorrow,” “Together we are stronger,” and “If abuses were flames, Mexico would be on fire,” the march went towards the central park in Salina Cruz.
