As a platform defending human rights, we are raising our voices with profound concern and indignation about the unjust detention of our colleague and sister, Didxazá García.
Last Tuesday, Didxazá, an honest worker, was arrested in the company of two individuals who had hired her to do tattoos. Unfortunately, when they accepted a ride back to Juchitán, they were intercepted by police.
The only “crime” Didxazá committed was practicing her trade and trying to earn a living. Being in the wrong place with her work tools does not make her a criminal.
For this, we demand that the Attorney General’s Office and the competent justice institutions:
*Immediately clear up the case: An exhaustive, transparent, and just investigation that reveals the truth and frees Didxazá from this unjust situation.
*Unrestricted respect for due process: Guarantee the respect of all of Didxazá’s rights during her detention, including the right to an adequate defense and the presumption of innocence.
*Investigation into police actions: The detention process must be thoroughly investigated to determine if the police acted appropriately to the situation and conformed to the law and to rule out any abuse of authority or arbitrary detention.
*Cessation of criminalization: Enough with the morbid and destructive criticism of Didxazá through name-calling and judgment. Stigmatization must be avoided and her integrity protected.
*Damage repair: If unjust detention is proven, Didxazá must be guaranteed comprehensive reparations, including restitution of her rights and compensation for harm suffered.
*Gender-sensitive protocols: The protocols of police action must be reviewed so that they incorporate a gender perspective and protect women from institutional violence.
We call for solidarity:
*We demand that society be informed truthfully and refrain from disseminating information that damages Didxazá’s integrity.
*We invite you to share this proclamation on social media, using the hashtag #JusticiaParaDidxazá so her voice can be heard.
Didxazá is not alone. We are with her.
Justice for Dixazá García!
